The Stripe surcharge setting allows you to pass a percentage of your Stripe processing costs on to your Clients. When enabled, an additional charge is automatically added to each payment your Client makes via Stripe, helping offset the transaction fees your company incurs.
Enabling the Surcharge
To enable the Stripe surcharge, navigate to Online Payments > Account and click the Settings cog button.

Inside the Settings panel, you will find the surcharge field. Check the box, then enter the percentage you want to add to each Stripe payment and save your changes.

Note: The surcharge is applied as a percentage on top of the amount your Client is charged. For example, if a Client is paying a £100 Invoice and you have set a 2% surcharge, they will be charged £102.
How the Surcharge Appears to Clients
When a Client pays an Invoice or Credit Request via Stripe, the surcharge is shown as a separate line item at checkout so they are aware of the additional cost before completing their payment.

Disabling the Surcharge
To remove the surcharge, navigate back to Online Payments > Account > Settings and clear the surcharge field, then save your changes. Payments made after this point will no longer include the additional charge.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the surcharge apply to all payment types?
The surcharge applies to card payments processed via Stripe. It does not apply to payments made through other methods such as GoCardless Direct Debit or manual bank transfers.
Is there a limit on how high I can set the surcharge?
There is no hard limit set within TutorCruncher, but you should be aware of any legal or card network restrictions in your region. Card networks typically require that a surcharge does not exceed your actual cost of acceptance. You are responsible for ensuring your surcharge complies with applicable rules.
Will existing scheduled payments be affected if I change the surcharge?
The surcharge is applied at the point of payment. Changing or removing the surcharge will take effect on future payments only and will not affect payments that have already been processed.
