When you or a Tutor creates a Tutor profile, they have the option to add and edit the Tutor’s teaching skills, which are then listed on their Tutor profile. A Tutor’s teaching skills consist of both the subject that Tutor specialises in and their skill level in that subject. The predetermined list of subjects covers most common subjects taught by schools, but for cases where it does not, you can create Custom Subjects to allow your Tutor’s profiles to contain teaching skills more relevant to your organisation.

Custom Subjects can be added via the Custom Subjects page, found in System > Settings > People and Activity > Custom Subjects. From here you can select Add Subject, which will open the Custom Subjects panel. Here you can specify the name, description and category of your custom subject.

The Custom Subjects page, with Add Subject highlighted. Custom Subjects can be edited by selecting their name.

Custom subjects can be applied to Tutor profiles by navigating to that Tutor’s profile and select the Edit button within the Teaching Skills panel:

Selecting this will open the Update Skills panel, from where you can select your Custom Subject from the Subject dropdown menu - the Custom Subject will be listed within the category you previously specified. Here you can also specify the skill level for that subject.
